Marvin Bagley’s dad asks Kings to trade son on Twitter: ‘ASAP!’

Marvin Bagley’s father was playing armchair GM during the Kings’ loss to the Rockets Saturday.

The elder Bagley took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with his son’s current role, pleading with the Kings to trade him as the team fell to 3-3 after the 102-94 loss in Houston.

“@SacramentoKings PLEASE trade Marvin Bagley III ASAP! Love – Coach Bagley,” he wrote in a since-deleted tweet. He later retweeted a quote-tweet of a screenshot of the deleted tweet.

After Saturday’s game, Sacramento coach Luke Walton was asked about Bagley’s father’s comments.

“My message is always the same — we don’t listen to any of that,” Walton told reporters. “It’s us within these walls, us within this locker room. We’re in this together. Like I always say, good or bad, we’ve got to do everything we can to not let that affect what we’re trying to get done here.”

Bagley, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 draft, finished the loss with 12 points, nine rebounds and two assists in 25 minutes. The 21-year-old has been the team’s starting power forward through the first six games of the season as the Kings look to snap a 14-year playoff drought.

“We know he has a very bright future, but we’re going to continue to be patient, continue to teach, continue to work with him on all of that stuff, but he’s doing a nice job,” Walton added.

Bagley played just 13 games last season because of thumb and foot injuries.
