It was just over two years ago on December 23 that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth tied the knot at a secret wedding ceremony.
The love birds – whose romance spanned almost a decade – gathered with just a small group of friends and family to say their vows in Nashville, Tennessee.
Unfortunately, their romance was not set to last and just eight months after getting hitched, Liam had filed for divorce.
On August 10, 2019, the couple confirmed that they had parted ways with a representative for Miley revealing the decision was made to “focus on themselves and careers”.
Fans were left stunned at the news that their favourite A-list couple had put an end to their wedding and a on-off relationship that had spanned years.
While their marriage was short lived, it hadn’t always been an easy journey for the couple and they split several times throughout the years.
The pair made their debut in 2010 after meeting on set of The Last Song and appeared to be going from strength to strength being pictured at several events together in the early years.
In 2012, Miley was forced to deny rumours that she had become engaged before actually confirming the news was actually true in June of that year.
Just one year later, Miley was spotted with out her ring and sent the rumour mill into meltdown amid suggestions that their wedding had been called off.
Miley then unfollowed Liam on social media before confirming: “I don’t think I realized what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn’t change being engaged. It was so fun wearing a fat rock for a few years.”
“But now, I just feel like I can actually be happy.”
Miley was then linked to several prominent figures such as Patrick Schwarzenegger and Stella Maxwell before the pair appear to have reunited in 2016.
That year, the love birds confirmed that their engagement was back on and they couldn’t be happier.
By 2018, the couple were rocked as a wildfire ravaged through thier Malibu home.
Following the terrifying event, Miley recalled how Liam had saved their animals and she made sure he knew she appreciated it.
“He got a lot of action for saving the animals,” she joked to Howard Stern.
To mark the end of a whirlwind year, the couple sealed the deal with a private wedding ceremony – six years after first getting engaged.
Sadly, their joy was not meant to last and their divorce was announced eight months later.
While fans were left speculating as to why the marriage had crumbled, Miley sent everyone into meltdown after she was pictured kissing Brody Jenner’s ex-wife Kaitlynn Carter.
Miley later took to social media to furiously shut down suggestions that her marriage had crumbled because of cheating.
“I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating. Liam and I have been together for a decase. I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will,” she wrote in one of her tweets.
She later added: “I am proud to say, I am simply in a different place from where I was when I was younger.”
A rep for Miley then revealed the reason behind the split as: “Ever evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.
“They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart.”
At the time, Liam also added that he wished Miley “nothing but health and happiness going forward.”
On January 28, 2020, their divorce was finalised.
While their marriage was firmly over, more surprising details about their romance emerged later this year.
Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alexandra Cooper, Miley revealed that she had lied to Liam about being more experienced in the bedroom.
“I lied and said he wasn’t the first so I didn’t seem like a loser,” Miley revealed, before adding that she had first hooked up with two girls beforehand.
