Gaëtan Thomas, the former President and CEO of the New Brunswick Power Corporation, remained the highest paid public servant in the province during the 2019-2020 fiscal year with an annual salary between $ 550,000 and $ 574,999.
This is what reveals the report released Monday by the Office of the Comptroller of the Treasury Board which profiles the payments allocated annually to employees of the province.
Gaëtan Thomas decided to retire in May 2020 after his ten-year tenure as President and CEO of NB Power, before taking the helm of the New Brunswick Economic Council two months later.
Mr Thomas was by far the highest paid government employee, except for a long list of doctors in the province who were paid in the same period well above his own.
The report also lists the compensation of several senior NB Power executives, including Carl Gaunce, Mitchell Bodechon, Alan Sinclair, Keith L. Cronkhite, Darren A. Murphy and Michael D. Fairweather which ranged from $ 300,000 to 399,999. $ in 2019-2020.
Renaud Champagne, of Service NB, for his part pocketed between $ 325,000 and $ 349,999 during the reference period, compensation similar to that of the current and former CEOs of the Vitalité and Horizon health networks.
Gilles Lanteigne, like his replacement at the head of Vitalité France Desrosiers and the director of the Horizon network Karen McGrath, all obtained compensation ranging from $ 300,000 to $ 324,999 during the year.
With a salary of $ 151,400, current Prime Minister Blaine Higgs could practically be a poor child, some would say. He was nonetheless the highest paid provincial elected to the Legislative Assembly during the 2019-2020 period, having pocketed about $ 20,000 more than most of his ministers.
Fewer “millionaire” doctors in 2020
The report also reveals the list of payments made to physicians in the province at the end of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2020.
These payments were made by the Department of Health for medical services insured under the Medical Services Payment Act.
This list includes a total of 35 New Brunswick physicians who have earned compensation over the past year that exceeds the million dollar mark. At this time last year, that list of so-called “millionaire” doctors stood at 37.
With a salary between $ 1,900,000 and $ 1,949,999, Dr. Martin Finnegan was the highest paid health care professional in New Brunswick in 2020. The Moncton radiologist resumed his title of highest paid physician in the province , a title that had eluded her last year in favor of Dr. Sunita MacMullin. However, the latter can be consoled as her compensation was between $ 1,850,000 and $ 1,899,999 during the last fiscal year.
Drs. Kenneth Roberts, Robert Javidi, J. Stewart MacMillan and Houfar Sekhavat all received compensation in excess of $ 1,500,000 during the same period.
