Messi makes stark admission about future as Barcelona contract nears end

Lionel Messi doubts Barcelona will ever be able to recapture former glories and has admitted that things are “really, really bad” at the Catalan giants.

The Barca icon almost walked out on his one and only professional club last summer, with Manchester City believing that they could snap him up on a free transfer due to a clause in his Nou Camp contract.

However that clause was expired, and the legal fight that ensued was unable to get Messi the result he wanted as he sought to turn his back on Catalonia.

That contract will expire at the end of this current season, and there is currently no indication that Messi will sign a new deal.

Messi was close to leaving Barca last summer

In a lengthy interview with Spanish television channel La Sexta, the Argentinean outlied his love for the club, saying: “Barca is my life, I’m in love with the club. And the city, my children were born here.”

He also opened up on the struggles he faced over the summer, admitting that the Burofax – a faxed legal document he sent demanding a transfer – had created a difficult environment for him.

“These days I am feeling well,” he continued.

“I had a really bad time last summer with the Burofax and all that, and before.

Barca are currently down in fifth in the table

“But now I feel good, excited to fight for everything in front of us. But club going through difficult moment, team too, everything around Barca is difficult.”

Barca currently sit fifth in La Liga, eight points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid, and Messi admits there are “bad” issues at the club.

“I know that things at Barca are really, really bad,” he said.

“It will be difficult to get back to where we were.”
