Arsenal want Tariq Lamptey as Gunners prepare for potential Hector Bellerin exit

Barcelona are lining up a move for Hector Bellerin – and Arsenal are eyeing Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey as a potential replacement.

Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta, who is favourite to win next month’s election, wants Bellerin, who began his youth career at the Nou Camp before moving to Arsenal.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta persuaded Bellerin to stay amid interest from Paris Saint Germain in the last transfer window and will be anxious not to lose him in January or next summer.

But Arsenal have been keeping close tabs on England under-21 starlet Lamptey who has been a revelation at Brighton this season and has quickly become one of the most sought after young players in the Premier League.

Lamptey, 20, is already being talked about as a future England international because of his marauding displays from right wing back.

Manchester City and Bayern Munich have also been watching his progress along with Arsenal, who have been monitoring closely.

Lamptey has emerged as a real star from Graham Potter’s Brighton

Lamptey started his career at Chelsea but opted to leave last January to get regular game time and that decision has reaped rich rewards as he has become a key figure for Brighton and earned rave reviews.

Brighton will be keen to tie down Lamptey to a new deal amid interest from other clubs, as manager Graham Potter has stressed just how highly they rate him.

Ghana have been chasing him on the international scene too, because, even though he was born in London, he is eligible to play for both countries through his parentage, while England are blessed with a huge range of options at right back with Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kieran Trippier and Reece James.

Arsenal have had a difficult start to the season and Bellerin played well in their win over Chelsea which is why Arteta still rates him highly.

But if they do end up losing him then Lamptey could be their first choice replacement.

Would Tariq Lamptey be a good signing for Arsenal? Have your say in the comments.
