Tuchel comments raise doubt over potential Arsenal role amid Arteta struggles

When Thomas Tuchel was relieved of his duties by Paris Saint-Germain on Christmas Eve, he was inevitably linked with Arsenal.

The Gunners are languishing in 15th in the Premier League after 14 games and are facing a shock fight against the drop.

Mikel Arteta is coming under increasing pressure in the Emirates dugout ahead of what could prove to be a crucial festive period.

The German press were quick to report that Tuchel wanted his next challenge to be in the Premier League having led PSG to the Champions League final last season.

And a number of Arsenal fans on Twitter gave their approval to Tuchel should Arteta depart.

Tuchel has previously spoken of his admiration for Tottenham

But it’s a different north London club that Tuchel has spoken of his admiration for in the past.

Prior to Dortmund’s Europa League round of 16 clash against Tottenham in 2016, Tuchel revealed his soft spot for Spurs.

“As a little kid, in my garden, when I played [football] I was always [playing] as a team from the Bundesliga but there was one game when I played as Tottenham Hotspur because I liked the name so much,” he said.

“I didn’t have a picture and I didn’t know they played in London so to play them in two legs was very special. What I didn’t know as a kid is what I felt today and yesterday, that there are so many friendly people here.

“The coaching staff and the staff in the stadium and dressing room and benches and so on, was unbelievable. Such great support and atmosphere, so many friendly people, they made us feel welcome.

“Thanks a lot and best of luck to the club.”
