Graham Potter addresses Yves Bissouma transfer links with Liverpool and Man Utd

Brighton manager Graham Potter insists the club have had “no approaches” for midfielder Yves Bissouma despite reported interest from Liverpool and Man Utd.

Both Premier League heavyweights have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old, who has been in impressive form for the Seagulls so far this season.

Speculation has suggested Real Madrid have also been monitoring Bissouma’s progress with a view to taking him to the Bernabeu.

But Potter has dismissed any notion of the Malian leaving the Amex Stadium in the near future.

“There have been no approaches,” Potter said ahead of Brighton’s upcoming clash with West Ham.

“As I’ve said before, just because it’s in the newspaper, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true.

“My focus on Yves is how I can help him improve and I think he’s still got some improvement to do.

“That’s my focus with him, to try and help him reach his full potential. He’s got some work to do yet, so that’s what we are focusing on.”

Liverpool have reportedly identified Bissouma as a potential replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who could well leave the Anfield club in January.

Arsenal are also believed to be eyeing Bissouma’s services, but it would take a substantial bid likely in excess of £30million for Brighton to consider selling him, with two years still left to run on his contract.

The all-action midfielder has been a standout performer for the south coast club this season, playing in all but one of their Premier League fixtures, with his only absence due to suspension.

Meanwhile Potter admitted Brighton were trying to recall striker Percy Tau from his loan spell with Anderlecht.

The South African has not played a single game for the club despite signing from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2018 due to work permit issues.

Tau has been plying his trade with several different clubs in Belgium since, but Potter is hopeful he can finally get his Brighton career up and running.

“It’s fair to say it’s something we’re looking to do, but there’s a few things to go through first,” Potter said.

“He brings something a little bit different to what we have got and he wants to take the next step in his career – we want to help him do that.”
