Carragher compares Salah’s ‘problem’ with Ronaldo’s Man Utd saga

Jamie Carragher is not worried about the future of Mohamed Salah after the Liverpool star was linked with a move to Barcelona.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, Salah described Barca and fellow La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid as “two top clubs”, leading many to believe he wants out of Anfield.

But comparing the situation to that of Cristiano Ronaldo ’s when he left Manchester United for Madrid, Carragher described his belief that Salah will stay in Liverpool.

After a two-year chase, during which Ronaldo made clear his intention to depart Old Trafford, United finally accepted an £80 million bid for the Portuguese.

But Carragher does not think that will happen with Salah.

“I don’t really think that’s a debate as much now as it was a few years ago,” he told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

“Even when Man Utd were top dogs and Ronaldo went to Real Madrid, it did still feel like a step up in some ways because Real Madrid is Real Madrid.

“I just think the two Spanish giants now have fallen so far.”

And with Salah now 28, Carragher also believes his time to move to La Liga has passed.

“I think Salah has got two and a half years to go, I’m not really looking at it as too much of a problem, because Real Madrid spent a lot of money on Hazard at that age, 28, 29,” he said.

“I think Salah is just getting to that age now and I think if you want to spend real big money on someone you want them to be 25, 26 to get that really value for them.

“I think if he did go, I don’t see it, it would be massive money for Liverpool but I think his time right now has sort of gone.”
