William Saliba has made light of his Arsenal omission after claiming he is “locked up” like former team-mate Matteo Guendouzi.
The Frenchman is yet to feature for the Gunners having joined from Saint Etienne.
Saliba was signed a year before he arrived by Unai Emery, but has been unable to impress Arteta.
Senior figures at the Emirates are having to accept that the young centre-half has no future at the club while the Spaniard is at the helm, according to reports.
But Saliba has seen the funny side in a brief Instagram exchange with Guendouzi and Nicolas Pepe.
Guendouzi is spending the season away on loan at Hertha Berlin where he scored an excellent goal at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Saliba commented on social media praising his compatriots goal before Pepe replied and said: “This is your problem, you comment on everything.”
Saliba replied by saying “Hahaha, I’m sending well wishes to the brother that was locked up like me.”
Before Guendouzi had the final word when he said: “We are together bro”.
The French midfielder fell out of favour under Arteta following his conduct in a defeat at Brighton.
He grabbed Seagulls forward Neal Maupay round the neck, an act he was heavily criticised for.
Arteta was understood to be less than impressed and subsequently left Guendouzi out of his squads going forward.
The Frenchman though did celebrate his goal on Saturday as if he didn’t know what more he could do, although whether that is directed at the Arsenal boss is up for debate.
Saliba though is being linked with a loan move away until a long-term resolution to his future can be found.
