Conor McGregor ‘in best shape in a decade’ ahead of comeback fight
Conor McGregor’s manager Audie Attar has admitted he has been stunned by the Irishman’s recent physical transformation as he gears up for his fight with Dustin Poirier.
The Notorious has not been back in the octagon since his stunning 40-second victory over Donald Cerrone in January last year.
But he will return next month for a rematch with Poirier – who he beat in 2014 – on January 23.
And speaking to National News.com, Attar said McGregor is looking the most physically impressive he has done for the last ten years.
“This is the best Conor I’ve seen ever, and I’ve been with him almost a decade now,” he said.
“I’ve never seen Conor like this. The guy doesn’t have to work a day in his life. He made more money this year not fighting; that’s how good business is.
“So to see him hungry to compete, hungry to continue to evolve, hungry to prove all the naysayers wrong and hungry to prove who he really is, not only athletically but as a businessman and as a human being, that to me is exciting. That’s a driver for me; it fulfils my purposes.”
Attar also thinks McGregor has improved in all manners technically, and believes he is totally focused on victory.
“The skill level is on another level,” he added. “It really is, on all fronts. He’s focused fully on the task at hand. And you can see that.
“If you look at images of him today, and images of him from the Cowboy camp most recently, or even the Khabib camp or the (Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2017) camp, he just looks different.”
It remains to be seen who McGregor takes on if, as expected, he is victorious over Poirier, with Justin Gaethje among the early favourites.
He recently said: “I’m number one so of course I want to fight for that f***ing belt, that’s why I’m here. Poirier and McGregor are fighting soon so I want to fight the winner of that.”
