Chelsea boss Lampard details concerning Pulisic fitness update

Frank Lampard says Christian Pulisic is still having hamstring issues as the US international seeks to get back to full fitness.

The former Borussia Dortmund attacker enjoyed a fine end to his first season in English football, with his impressive form post-lockdown helping the Blues reach the FA Cup final.

He scored their opening goal in that Wembley final against Arsenal, but was soon forced off with a hamstring injury which would see him miss the start of this season.

After returning in October and making five appearances, Pulisic felt the hamstring again in the warm-up before the clash at Burnley at the end of the month, and he subsequently missed the next four games.

He returned for the draw with Tottenham, but wasn’t in the squad for the Champions League draw with Krasnodar in midweek.

Pulisic has been in and out of the team this season

Speaking before travelling to Everton on Saturday, Lampard says the issue isn’t a huge one but still something of a concern.

“We’re the same as we were in midweek, Hakim Ziyech and Callum [Hudson-Odoi] are out for around a couple of weeks,” he told his press conference.

“Christian Pulisic had a tiny bit of awareness off the back of the Leeds game [last weekend] in one of his hamstrings, but he’s training normally, so we should be as we were.

Lampard’s Chelsea face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday

“With Christian it’s a work in progress, I don’t want to call this an injury that he had in midweek.

“If the game had been a different type of game it might have been a game where I would have used him, we know his abilities, that’s very clear, he showed them when he came on against Leeds last week.

“I just have to find the way to get the best out of him regularly and consistently.”
