Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is expected to delve into the transfer market again in January as he bids to bolster his side’s title challenge.
Lampard’s side went top of the Premier League following Saturday’s win over Leeds – although they were replaced at the summit by Tottenham on Sunday after Jose Mourinho’s side beat Arsenal.
Olivier Giroud continued his renaissance as he opened the scoring against Leeds, and Blues boss Lampard has been handed some advice over the forward’s future.
Chelsea are also braced for interest in some of their other stars – and have been linked with one of the biggest names in Serie A.
Here are the latest Chelsea transfer rumours.
Chelsea ‘offered Dybala’ but must battle rivals
Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Paolo Dybala – but will face competition from Premier League rivals for the Juventus star.
That’s according to 90min, which claims the forward has been offered to Chelsea as well as the rest of the top flight-‘s big six – Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Dybala has had a slow start to this season, having scored just once in 10 appearances so far.
But the 27-year-old will hope to repeat his form of last term, when he scored 17 goals in all competitions and posted 14 assists as Juventus powered to the Serie A title.
The Argentine ace will enter the final year of his Juve contract next summer, when there could be a scramble for his services.
Napoli join Gilmour transfer race
Promising Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour could be the subject of a shock January swoop from Napoli, according to reports from Italy.
According to Calciomercato, the Serie A club are weighing up the possibility of taking the 19-year-old on loan with a view to a permanent transfer if he fits in.
Gilmour impressed as he played 11 times for Chelsea last season, but his progress was curtailed by injury in July, and he made his first appearance of the season in last week’s win over Sevilla.
Juventus have also been linked with a move for Gilmour – but Chelsea are expected to resist any attempts to sign the Scotland under-21 ace permanently as he is highly rated at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard urged to ‘be selfish’ over Giroud
Frank Lampard has been urged to be “selfish” over Olivier Giroud’s future ahead of the January transfer window.
Giroud opened the scoring in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Leeds on Saturday – hot on the heels of his stunning four-goal haul against Sevilla in midweek.
But the France striker has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge as he targets first-team football ahead of next summer’s Euro 2020 finals.
However, former Blues striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink says Chelsea can’t risk letting Giroud leave.
“I don’t think Chelsea can afford to let Giroud go,” Hasselbaink said on Premier League TV.
“Even if he isn’t number one, he can come off the bench and make something different.
“I know he is going to want to leave, but I think Frank has to be very selfish there and say no.
“Maybe he can call Deschamps and have that conversation with him and ask, ‘what does he need to do to be in your team and how much does he need to play?’
“Frank has to be a little creative to keep him because he is important for the team.”
