Mutya Buena has let the world know exactly what she thinks of some of the music world’s most accomplished female songstresses – rating the likes of Kylie Minogue and Jennifer Lopez as below average.
The 35-year-old singer enjoyed four number one singles herself as part of chart topping band Sugababes in the first half of the noughties – as well as one number one album.
And while the singer also bagged some awards for her work both in Sugababes and as a solo artist, she has opted to dish out some rather choice feedback for some of her contemporaries.
Takin to Instagram Live for a Q&A with fans, Mutya gave some brutally honest opinions about some of the biggest names in the music business.
She said of Kylie Minogue:“I don’t think she’s a singer. She’s a great entertainer, she’s amazing at what she does, but singing is not for her.
“Can’t Get You Out Of My Head? You can sing that drunk and so can I.
“I don’t think I’ve ever bought a Kylie Minogue track in my life and I don’t think I ever would.”
But Mutya had more blunt opinions to spill – turning her attention to Jennifer Lopez, she continued: “J-Lo, you can just shake your a**e crack. Let’s be honest, J Lo, she can’t sing.
“I’m not being rude. She’s an amazing performer, sexy as hell and looks great.
“But I’m not going to tell you J-Lo can sing. I’d be lying to you.”
Lady Gaga didn’t escape unscathed, with Mutya stating: “She goes along with the rest of them. She can hit a note, yes, but not for me.”
While there was a mixed review for fellow British singer, Ellie Goulding – who Mutya explained: “Her voice is all right. But it kind of irritates me slightly, just how it is.”
Meanwhile, The Sun also states Mutya blasted Taylor Swift, Cheryl Tweedy, Madonna and Miley Cyrus during her blunt reviews.
Earlier this year, Mutya teased that Sugabebs fans would soon be able to hear new material from founding members Keisha Buchanan, Siobhan Donaghy and herself with the band back recording together.
She said: ”We’re working on new music and have a secret project that should be made public later this year. Plus we are working on something special for our fans that is coming out for our 20th anniversary. As well as the music we’ve planned a tour.
“We need to put it out there for everyone to see and hear us again. Everything new we are working on will be classic Sugababes/MKS sounds. I’m excited to get out there.”
While in April she also teased more of her own solo material, saying during another Instagram Live: “I’d maybe do an old-school, Nineties R&B album. All of my favourite R&B songs. Or an EP – an EP would be great now.”
