David Haye makes Daniel Dubois vs Joe Joyce prediction
David Haye believes Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce will serve up a heavyweight thriller tonight.
The unbeaten British heavyweights will clash in a crossroads fight with the winner going on to challenge for a world title and the loser heading back to the drawing board.
Both men have knocked out all but one of their professional opponents – and Haye expects another fire fight.
“Daniel Dubois is very natural in the way he puts his punches together,” said Haye.
“Joe Joyce is not as smooth or as quick but his athleticism and his engine gets him through.
“It’s a perfect clash of styles for two rough, tough heavyweights to punch the lights out of each other.
“I think it’s going to be explosive early and how long is it until they say, ‘You hit me and I’ll hit you’?
“Neither fighter is known for their punch evasion, neither has a great defence, they’ve both been tagged, hurt and come back to win.
“Dubois is a little less easy to hit, his hands are higher and he moves his head off the line. Joe Joyce has a very vertical defence and he has shown a disregard for punches coming at him because he relies on his punch resistance.
“That’s all good and well until he fights a 23-year-old who is a KO specialist.
“He hasn’t minded taking clean concussive punches as long as he lands his, but that wont work against Dubois.”
Joyce is 13 years Dubois’ senior and does not have time on his side in the professional game.
Haye added: “Joyce had to take it; he’s 35 now, he couldn’t wait another 18 months to make his move.
“He might have missed the boat, and he would be too old and it wouldn’t happen.
“This is the perfect opportunity for Joe Joyce to gate crash the top five in the world; this would push him to the top of the pile if he wins.
“His team are very confident and they believe they see something in Daniel Dubious that they can capitalise on.”
