Diego Maradona’s body has been taken to a morgue for a post-mortem to determine his cause of death “beyond any doubt”.

The Argentine suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on Wednesday at his home in Tigre.

His body has been taken to a morgue near the Argentine capital Buenos Aires for a post-mortem, although a state prosecutor has confirmed there are no signs of violence.

The prosecutor, working under the orders of Laura Capra, said: “Diego Armando Maradona died around 12pm local time. The forensic police began their work at 4pm.

“No signs of any criminality or violence have been detected.

“The autopsy is being carried out to determine beyond any doubt the cause of death but we can say at this stage that everything is pointing to natural causes.”
