Almost as soon as the summer transfer window closed, the thoughts of many associated with Arsenal turned towards January.
The Gunners made three permanent additions over the summer, with Thomas Partey, Gabriel Magalhaes and Willian all joining, but more reinforcements are required.
Speculation is swirling around a number of targets, with much discussion focussing on the pursuit of a new creative midfielder following the failed pursuit of Houssem Aouar and the continued exile of Mesut Ozil.
Here are three of today’s most noteworthy Arsenal transfer stories.
Real Madrid join Arsenal in race for Hungarian playmaker
Arsenal have been joined in the race for Dominik Szoboszlai by Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants set to spend big next summer.
The Hungarian has caught the eye for Red Bull Salzburg this season, registering five goals and nine assists in 13 appearances in all competitions for the Austrian side, catching the eye in the Champions League as well.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Szoboszlai’s sparkling performances have caught the eye of Real Madrid, who are preparing to make moves next summer after a quiet summer transfer window this year.
Szoboszlai has consistently been linked with a move to Arsenal with RB Leipzig also believed to be interested in the 20-year-old.
Gilberto Silva thinks Arsenal ‘missed’ signing of England ace in summer
Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva thinks the North London club should have made a move for Jack Grealish during the summer, comparing the England international to a member of the ‘Invincibles.’
Grealish was linked with a number of top Premier League clubs, but signed a new £125,000-a-week contract towards the end of the window to keep him at Aston Villa.
Gilberto believes Arsenal “missed” signing the 25-year-old during the summer, highlighting Grealish’s quality and comparing the Englishman to one of the best attackers to have ever played for the Gunners.
“Grealish, amazing,” Gilberto told the Incredible Wall podcast.
“With his ability, in the middle, he plays beautiful football. He controls the ball, assists and can score goals.
“He is slightly different from Dennis Bergkamp, but he could be somebody for the future at Arsenal.”
Atletico Madrid could make renewed effort to sign Arsenal striker
Alexandre Lacazette could be the subject of renewed interest from Atletico Madrid as the Spanish club plot another move for the Arsenal striker.
The Frenchman is a long-term target for Atleti having targeted him before he made the move to North London from Lyon in 2017 and again this year.
Diego Simeone is thought to be a big fan of the player.
According to La Razon , Atletico Madrid still view Lacazette as a potential replacement for Diego Costa whose contract at the Wanda Metropolitano expires at the end of the 2020/21 season.
In the past, Arsenal have held firm in their high valuation of Lacazette, but the situation could change next summer due to the 29-year-old only having one more year left on his contract.
The Gunners could be more open to doing a deal.
