One of the experts who advises the president-elect Joe Biden Regarding the coronavirus, he suggested a confinement of four to six weeks to contain the advance of the pandemic and revive the economy.
Doctor Michael Osterholm, one of the experts on the Biden Advisory Board for Covid-19, urged legislators to agree on an aid package that guarantees payment of income for employees and covers the losses of small and medium businesses during that period of confinement.
“We could pay a package right now to cover all wages, lost wages of workers due to losses of small and medium enterprises or municipal, state or county governments,” Osterholm told CNBC. “We could do all of that. If we did that, then we could lock ourselves up for four to six weeks. “
For the expert, a lockdown while income is guaranteed will allow the United States have a better response while waiting for the approval and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The president-elect’s office has not spoken out on Osterholm’s suggestion.
The United States posted a new record for daily coronavirus positives on Tuesday. The increase occurs throughout the country so health authorities are on alert. Biden pleaded with the population to wear a mask and warned of a “dark winter.”
Osterholm is the director of the Center for Infectious Diseases Policy and Research at the University of Minnesota.
