Just four days after getting married, a couple from Manhattan (NYC) drowned on their honeymoon in the Caribbean.
The lawyer Muhammad Malik (26) and the surgeon Dr. Noor Shah (29) died on October 28 while honeymooning in the British paradise islands Turks & Caicos, their relatives reported to Newsday.
“It is a devastating loss”, claimed the groom’s father, Maqbool Malik. “It is an incredible shock. And it is a tragedy of different dimensions when you have to put two children to rest at a joint funeral.
“They were really in love with each other,” added. “The kind of chemistry we saw in those two human beings was amazingly fascinating. They loved each other.”
The couple had married in East Meadow (Long Island) and lived in Manhattan. On the day of the tragedy they had been swimming at the resort near Como Parrot Cay, when they were outmatched by strong swells.
The groom’s father criticized the resort for the lack of signs warning swimmers of the possibility of storm surge.
Their bodies are expected to arrive in New York today. The double funeral is scheduled for tomorrow in New Jersey.
The groom had graduated from Cornell University and worked at Olshan Frome Wolosky LLP in Manhattan. His wife was a 4th year surgical resident at NYU Langone Health.
A Manhattan corporate attorney and his newlywed bride, a surgeon at NYU Langone Hospital, drowned on their honeymoon last week in the Caribbean – four days after they wed at a ceremony in East Meadow, family members said Friday. https://t.co/uyBbtuevMu
