New Jersey voters passed a constitutional amendment to legalize marijuana.
This ends with a dispute between the governor Phil Murphy and the local Congress, since the democrat promised in campaign in 2017 to legalize that substance within his first 100 days in office.
However, lawmakers did not gather enough votes in the state Senate to pass the legislation, which was sponsored by the senator. Nick Scutari.
That battle resulted in the opinion of the voters being asked, which is why it was included on the ballot.
The Associated Press reported approval of the petition after 9:50 p.m.
67.25% of voters, that is, 1.6 million supported the decision against 32.75%.
This allows the state Senate to advance a bill, although it is unknown whether it would be the same one presented by Scutari.
