Rona Sugar Love, a Puerto Rican transgender who spent 25 years in prison for two homicides she committed in the 1990s, was arrested on suspicion of committing a robbery and shooting a passenger on the New York Subway.
Love, 59, was on probation and yesterday was arrested again and charged with assassination attempt in an Oct. 18 shooting inside Station 1/2/3 on 14th Street, Greenwich Village, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea reported on Twitter.
That day, in the middle of a discussion on the platform, supposedly pulled out a gun and fired multiple times, brushing the 24-year-old victim on the neck and back, according to Pix11. The injured man was able to walk himself to the nearby Lenox Health Center before being transferred to Bellevue Hospital, where he was later released.
Police added that Love will also be charged for a recent robbery at gunpoint at a store in Ridgewood, Queens.
It also has a pending case on assault charges, after allegedly hitting a woman on the head with a broom during a domestic dispute on July 15 in Bushwick, Brooklyn, according to police. That time she was released without bail and a temporary protection order was issued, public records show.
After being released from jail in April 2019, Love told the “NYC Trans Oral History Project” that while she was behind bars she was repeatedly sexually and physically abused by other inmates and prison officials and tried several times to commit suicide. And who also experienced “physical, emotional, sexual and mental abuse ”in his childhood in Puerto Rico, reported New York Post.
Last week, a man was shot multiple times after a dispute in a Manhattan subway station.
