A 5-year-old boy died and his mother was seriously injured when her apartment in The Bronx (NYC) caught fire.
The fire broke out on the 5th floor of the 15-story building in the public housing complex (NYCHA) “Melrose Houses” on East 153rd St, near Morris Avenue, yesterday shortly before 10 a.m., according to the FDNY.
The minor, Billay Jagana, was rushed to Lincoln Medical Center, where died from smoke inhalation. His 38-year-old mother was in critical condition at the same hospital, police said.
Two firefighters were also evaluated at the scene for minor injuries. The fire was under control in 45 minutes and the cause is being investigated, reported New York Post.
