Roberto Firmino finds form in Brazil win amid recent Liverpool goal struggles

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino scored twice in Brazil’s 5-0 win over Bolivia to end his goalless start to the 2020/21 season.

Though he is seen as an integral part of Reds boss Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI, Firmino has come under fire in recent months after he scored just 12 goals last season.

The 29-year-old went almost an entire season without scoring at Anfield in the league before ending the unwanted run with a goal in Liverpool’s last home game of the 2019/20 campaign – the 5-3 win over Chelsea.

Firmino has contributed two assists but is yet to find the back of the net for Liverpool this season, and the Reds will hope his double for Brazil will help him find his form at club level.

Firmino struck from close range either side of half-time

The other goals in the 5-0 rout were scored by Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos and former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho, while Jose Carrasco scored an own goal for the visitors.

The result sees Brazil top the 2022 World Cup qualifiers table for South American nations ahead of their trip to Peru on Wednesday.

Firmino – who struck from close range either side of half-time – is accompanied in the squad by Liverpool teammate Fabinho.
