PlayStation 5 teardown video gives us our first look inside Sony’s 2020 console

It’s one of the most eagerly anticipated gaming consoles of 2020, and now Sony has given us an official teardown of the PlayStation 5.

In the video, Yasuhiro Ootori, VP of mechanical design at Sony Interactive Entertainment, shows off the inner workings of the PS5.

He said: “This is the PlayStation 5. At 104mm wide, 390mm high, and 260mm deep, the size is larger than that of the PS4, but results in a dramatic improvement in performance in terms of processing power and quietness.”

Firstly, Mr Ootori shows off how to switch the console from vertical to horizontal.

This involves unscrewing the base, storing the screw in the base itself, then using a cap to plug the screw hole.

Users must then rotate the stand, and clip it on to the PS5 in-line with the face buttons etched on the console. You can then lay the console flat.

The two rows on the front of the console are air vents, while the entire rear side is its exhaust port, Mr Ootori explains.

The large white panels on the sides can easily be removed by lifting the back corner and sliding them off.

Beneath is a large cooling fan, which draws in air from both sides.

Meanwhile, the CPU, the GPU, memory and 825GB SSD are found underneath the shield, with a liquid metal used for cooling.

Thankfully, there’s not long to wait before keen fans can get their hands on the PlayStation 5 themselves.

The official release date is November 12, with fans in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand South Korea able to get their hands on the console on that date.
