After a busy transfer deadline day, Manchester United’s future business continues to be the subject of plenty of discussion.
Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri all arrived in the 24 hours before the deadline, while United also agreed a deal for Atalanta winger Amad Diallo which will see the Ivorian join his new team-mates in January.
However, there are a number of later deadlines – between the Premier League and EFL, and for outgoing players to move to Russia or Portugal – which mean Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side could be trimmed further before the end of the month.
We’ve got the latest on United’s potential incomings and outgoings, both this month and further down the line.
Man Utd tipped to return for €40m defensive target next summer
While transfer deadline day came and went without Manchester United adding a new centre-back to their ranks, one player continues to be mentioned in connection with the club.
Dayot Upamecano was linked with a Premier League move more than once over the summer, with United one of a number of clubs reportedly looking at the RB Leipzig defender.
The Frenchman ultimately signed a new deal with the Bundesliga side, who have been drawn in the same group as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side for this season’s Champions League, but Bild (via Sport Witness) claims United will potentially be one of a number of English clubs preparing to move for him next summer.
Upamecano will be available for €40m, the report claims, with Liverpool and Manchester City also keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.
The defender made his 100th appearance for Leipzig last season, playing a big part as Julian Nagelsmann’s side made the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Porto ‘showing interest’ in Lingard move before Portuguese deadline
While Premier League clubs are no longer able to sign players from European leagues, Portuguese sides have a little longer to do business.
That business can include taking unwanted players from English sides, as Porto have shown with loan swoops for three Premier League players this week, and the Portuguese club are reportedly keen on Jesse Lingard.
According to ESPN’s Rob Dawson, Porto are “showing interest” in Lingard, with a view to taking the England international in a season-long loan move.
Lingard has made two Carabao Cup appearances for United this season, but hasn’t featured in the league since scoring on the final day of the 2019/20 season against Leicester City.
Porto have made three loan additions from the Premier League, bringing in West Ham United’s Felipe Anderson, Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic and newly-arrived Chelsea centre-back Malang Sarr, and it is unclear whether these arrivals will prevent them moving for Lingard.
Sergio Conceicao’s side are due to face Manchester City in this season’s Champions League group stage.

Manchester United have looked at a number of players from Championship clubs over the last few months as they have worked on strengthening their squad.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side made a significant addition from the second tier in 2019, bringing in Daniel James from Swansea City, and had an approach for Watford ’s Ismaila Sarr knocked back on Monday.
However, despite plenty of names attracting column inches, the Manchester Evening News reports that United have no plans to add any EFL players to their ranks before the domestic deadline of 16 October.
As well as Sarr, United had been looking at Bournemouth winger and Swansea defender Joe Rodon, the latter of whom has since been linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
