Manchester United have revealed their squad numbers for the 2020/21 after making four new signings on transfer deadline day.
United signed former Paris-Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani and left-back Alex Telles from Porto on Monday, as well as two 18-year-old wingers with an eye on the future.
Facundo Pellestri signed from Penarol in his native Uruguay, while Amad Diallo will join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in January.
Up until deadline day, United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward had endured a frustrating transfer window, with midfielder Donny van de Beek the club’s only signing going into Monday.
The club’s summer-long pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho ultimately failed, with United expected expected to try again for the England winger next summer.
But now that Solskjaer’s squad for the season is complete, the full list of squad numbers has been released.
Had United succeeded in signing Sancho, the 20-year-old would surely have landed the club’s iconic No7 shirt, previously worn by legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Bryan Robson.
With Sancho staying at Dortmund, the number seven has gone to Cavani, who arrives looking to build on his phenomenal scoring record of 341 goals for PSG, Napoli and Palermo.
Telles will wear the number 27 shirt, Pellestri will take 28, while Van de Beek has been wearing 34 since his move from Ajax.
Mason Greenwood has been promoted to the number 11 shirt following his breakthrough campaign last season, while Dean Henderson is wearing 26 following his return from two seasons on loan with Sheffield United.
The other two young players to be handed first-team shirt numbers for the season were Brandon Williams, taking 33, and Teden Mengi, who will wear number 43.
