Katie Price has candidly revealed she contemplated taking her own life earlier this year when she found herself hitting rock bottom.
The 42-year-old mum-of-five said she had dark thoughts after feeling betrayed by those she considered her closest companions and feared she couldn’t trust anyone around her.
While years of being abused by online trolls also had a negative affect on her mental health – with the star taking treatment at The Priory back in February.
Katie opened up about her struggles, her low points, her treatment and her hopes for the future as she bared her soul to fans online.
The star said in a video shared on her official YouTube page: “I had thoughts of killing myself. That’s how bad it got for me but you guys don’t know that because Katie Price always puts on a brave face.”
Katie revealed she had been struggling in the lead-up to her departure from Loose Women – who she was a panelist on until September 2018 when she disappeared from the line-up amid speculation of drug abuse.
She said in her video: “Believe it or not Loose Women was my breaking point. I don’t know how on earth I used to do it when really I was ill, I was suffering
“Now I’d love to do Loose Women or shows because I’m such a different person and it’s all from being in The Priory.”
Opening up about how she got to such a low point, Katie explained loneliness was part of the issue – because she found herself unable to trust others.
She said: “I’m not proud of it but I had nobody close to me to talk too, they’d all betrayed me at some point, there was few people I could trust.
“I wanted to keep everything in and couldn’t talk. I just wanted to sleep. I was weak… and I let a drug get the better of me and I let people use me.
“Then I had a wakeup call… if I don’t get help I’m going to die or self destruct. l had lost me, the kids had lost their mum, nobody believed in me anymore.”
Katie said she had grown tired of online trolls mocking her upbringing and family circumstances.
She said: “I’m a mother-of-five, I come from a normal working class family, I have built my empire to support my kids purely through hard work.
“So if you wanna knock someone like that, then do it. I might not be the most intelligent person, but I am a grafter.”
Katie credited her five children and her blossoming romance with current boyfriend, former Love Island contestant Carl Woods, for helping her turn her life around.
She said: “I hit rock bottom but I’m now back up, now you watch me grow, I’m the powerful independent Katie Price I was years ago.
“I’m in a happy place, very happy, very strong, in a very very strong relationship, I’m in love, and have found my future, so watch this space.”
She also advocated continuing mental health treatment, declaring: “I’m not in The Priory now but I still speak to doctor, if you have a headache you take a tablet…. I’m not ashamed of my mental health.”
