Man Utd transfer round-up: Dembele contact made as Cavani talks begin

As Manchester United’s players prepare for a Carabao Cup test against Brighton & Hove Albion, many fans will also be hoping for some positive developments on the transfer front.

United travel to the AMEX Stadium having narrowly beaten Brighton in the league on Saturday, while goals from Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood gave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side victory at Luton in the previous round.

Donny van de Beek, United’s only senior signing, made his first United start at Luton.

By the time United return to Premier League action against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, they may have made further additions to their squad: here’s the latest on some of those potential moves.

Manchester United have not ruled out moving for Ousmane Dembele during this window if they fail to land Jadon Sancho.

The French forward has been linked with United in the past, and has been mentioned this summer as a potential target as the club looks to add a wide player to the squad.

According to Sky Sports, United are in talks with Barcelona over a move for Dembele, with a season-long loan believed to be the most likely option.

Barca have been getting high earners off their books over the last few weeks, with Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic and Luis Suarez all leaving in cut-price deals.

Dembele has been beset by injuries since moving to the Catalan club from Borussia Dortmund, playing just nine league and Champions League games last season, but once impressed enough to fetch a fee of £97m.

Manchester United have opened discussions with free agent Edinson Cavani as they continue to look for attacking reinforcements.

The Uruguay striker has been without a club since leaving Paris Saint-Germain over the summer, despite being linked with European suitors

And now the Mail is reporting United have begun discussions to potentially bring Cavani to Old Trafford as frustrations grow over their pursuit of Jadon Sancho.

While Cavani is a different sort of player, he would arrive with enviable statistics and Champions League experience as United prepare a return to Europe’s top competition.

The Mail also reports that United have been offered Real Madrid frontman Luka Jovic on loan for the season, just a year after the Serbian forward joined the Spanish club from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Jovic scored 17 Bundesliga goals in his final Frankfurt season, but made just four starts in La Liga for his new club after a big-money move.

Diogo Dalot has been attracting interest from around Europe after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

The right-back has seen his opportunities limited since the arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in 2019, and has played just one competitive game since March.

This has prompted approaches from AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen, with Portuguese outlet Record (via Sport Witness) reporting that United have turned down loan offers from both clubs as they will only entertain a permanent exit.

The publication claims Milan may return with a new bid, as the Italian club continue to add to their squad under Stefano Piolo.

Dalot, who is under contract at United until 2023, is reportedly keen to stay at the English club and eager to fight for his place.
