Jamie Redknapp’s pre-game prediction quickly came back to bite him as Chelsea had a first-half horror show against West Brom.
Chelsea have splashed the cash this summer with Frank Lampard spending over £200million to bolster his squad.
They have added a wealth of attacking talent including new club-record signing Kai Havertz, striker Timo Werner and Ajax ace Hakim Ziyech.
New goalkeeper Eduoard Mendy and left-back Ben Chilwell are also amongst the new arrivals – but Redknapp predicted free transfer Thiago Silva to become their difference maker.
Yet that prediction soon went wrong as Silva experienced a miserable start to his Premier League career.
He gave the ball away for West Brom’s second goal and was unable to prevent them trailing the newly promoted side 3-0 after just half an hour following a defensive horror show.
Silva was handed the captain’s armband for his Premier League debut against West Brom and there will be high hopes he will turn things around to make the difference for a Blues side in desperate need of tightening up at the back.
Redknapp told Sky Sports ahead of the game: “Frank just summed it up there, his presence as soon as he’s come into the place must’ve been immense.
