United States Approaches 7 Million Coronavirus Cases | The NY Journal

WASHINGTON – The United States reached 201,930 deaths from COVID-19 this Wednesday and totaled 6,943,071 cases, according to the independent count from Johns Hopkins University.

This balance on Wednesday is 50,707 infections more than on Tuesday and 1,228 new deaths.

Although New York It is no longer the state with the highest number of infections, it remains the most affected in terms of deaths in the United States with 33,090 (without variation compared to last day), more than in all of Peru, France or Spain.

In New York City alone, 23,780 people have died from the disease (unchanged from Tuesday), according to local authorities’ tally.

New York is followed in the number of deaths – according to the Johns Hopkins map – neighboring New Jersey (16,082), Texas (15,422), California (15,263) and Florida (13,618).

Other states with large death toll include Massachusetts (9,328), Illinois (8,744), Pennsylvania (8,038), and Michigan (7,013).

In terms of infections, California leads the list with 794,876, followed by Texas with 746,860, while Florida is third with 690,499, and New York fourth with 451,892.

The provisional death toll – 201,882 – far exceeds the lower limit of the initial estimates of the White House, which projected in the best of cases between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths from the pandemic.

For its part, the Institute for Health Metrics and Assessments (IHME) of the University of Washington, whose models for predicting the evolution of the pandemic are often set by the White House, calculates that for the presidential elections on November 3, the United States will have exceeded 258,000 deaths and by December 31, 400,000.
