Frank Lampard has confirmed summer signings Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva will be involed in Chelsea’s EFL Cup match with Barnsley on Wednesday.
Chilwell and Silva are part of a summer spending spree that is set to continue with the arrival of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
The £22m deal for the Rennes stopper sees their outlay in the window at a staggering £222m, with two weeks still remaining before the October 5 deadline.
He could make his Chelsea debut for the game with West Brom this weekend – providing he passes the Covid tests at Compton.
Chilwell meanwhile, arrived in a £45m switch from Premier League rivals Leicester City, but missed the opening pair of Premier League games through injury.
Marcos Alonso has deputised at left-back, but Chilwell is available for the visit of the Tykes, with Lampard’s side looking to bounce back from defeat to Liverpool.

Along with the England international, fellow defensive recruit Thiago Silva will be in the squad on Wednesday night as he looks to make his bow following a free transfer from PSG.
Lampard said: “Thiago Silva is in the squad for tomorrow. He’s getting fit so I’ll make a decision on how many minutes he may get during the game depending on what’s best for hiim.
“Ben Chilwell is also in the squad.”
Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic are also “getting closer” to returning to the line-up, with Lampard now nearing the first opportunity to showcase all of his new signings.
The Chelsea boss has hinted that he could put out a strong looking team for the Carabao Cup tie, with building match fitness and the logistics of bringing players into the squad, behind his thinking.
“It’s eyes on the fitness of the team,” he added. “We are not fit now, I will use it primarily for that. We have the bubble, so we can’t just bring academy players over for the game.”
