The Voice’s Delta Goodrem opens up about secret health battle and speech therapy

The Voice Australia star Delta Goodrem has gone public with her secret health battle.

Born To Try hitmaker, 35, was terrified when she was left unable to speak or sing following complications during salivary gland removal surgery.

In secret, the singer opened up in detail for the first time about having speech therapy behind the scenes ahead of filming for The Voice in February 2019.

She told The Courier Mail: “I didn’t know if I’d make it before it was time to film. I knew I had that goal coming up, I needed it to get better.”

The vocals coach only trusted her closest friends and family members with the intimate details of her health battle at the time.

Her life revolved around going to the hospital and going to speech therapy, the rest of the time she stayed at home trying to recover.

She said: “I stayed at home in between going to the hospital and going to speech therapy. When you have to retreat you can retreat.

“I have a really tight knit group of friends and family who have always been protective of me. It was a really personal time for me, the people around me knew the gravity of it.”

Delta has since made a full recovery since the complications two years ago.

In a piece to camera, the singer filmed herself while in her hospital bed two years ago.

It wasn’t until earlier this year Delta bravely told fans what had happened.

Previously, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the age of 18 in July 2003.
