Jurgen Klopp’s view on Diogo Jota which sparked £45m Liverpool transfer

Jurgen Klopp is over the moon to confirm the arrival of Diogo Jota – for a number of reasons.

Liverpool have snapped up the Portugal forward for a fee of up to £45m in a whirlwind 24 hour period for the club.

He joins Thiago Alcantara as new faces at Anfield after a deal was struck with Wolves.

In a separate transfer, Ki-Jana Hoever went the other way in search of first-team football.

But while the arrival of Jota seemed to come out of nowhere, there has actually been a hefty chunk of planning gone into the transfer.

The 23-year-old has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time, with reports coming as early as two years ago.

Liverpool have put a lot of planning into the signing of Diogo Jota

It coincides with the same time the Reds signed Fabinho, who works with the agency Gestifute.

This company and Anfield chiefs have been in contact for some time now, report The Athletic.

And club recruitment staff have been suitably impressed by the former Atletico Madrid ace.

In terms of transfers the Reds have completed the signing of Thiago Alcantara, while Wolves’ Diogo Jota is next on their radar. Youngster Ki-Jana Hoever is set to head to Wolves in a £10million deal, while Gini Wijnaldum continues to be linked with Barcelona. There’s a lot to keep track of.

But they are not the only ones, with Klopp also a huge fan of Jota.

Most notably, his flexibility across the frontline has been touted as an invaluable asset to have at Liverpool.

But it his ability to press and his dogged work-rate which has won over the German manager, who made him a priority after the arrival of Thiago.

Klopp is a big fan of Jota

Watford star Ismaila Sarr was also on the wish list for Klopp but the Hornets were sticky negotiators.

They had demanded £40m and were not budging from their position and while Jota cost more, on the whole it has worked out an easier deal.

That is because Wolves were happy to sell and have accepted just 10 per cent of the guaranteed fee of £45m.

They expect the full payment in 12 months, though, but it was just one small deed that saw talks go a lot more smoother.

Liverpool face Chelsea next in the Premier League on Sunday, though they will not be able to call upon the services of Jota and Thiago.

They would have needed to be officially confirmed by midday on Friday, with all paperwork submitted before that time.

Nevertheless, Klopp could give Liverpool fans a taste of their new stars in a Carabao Cup clash with Lincoln on Thursday.
