Rhian Brewster transfer talks confirmed as striker nears Liverpool exit

Chris Wilder has confirmed Sheffield United are trying to bring in another striker, as rumours surrounding Rhian Brewster continue to gain pace.

It is understood Liverpool are willing to listen to offers for the 20-year-old, despite Jurgen Klopp being a huge admirer.

Brewster has been involved with the Reds’ pre-season preparations, but with first choice trio Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, his opportunities will once again be limited.

That means Klopp could cash in on the former Chelsea academy star, in order to fund moves for the likes of Thiago Alcantara.

Brewster could be on his way out of Anfield in the next month

The Blades have pinpointed Brewster as their number one target this summer, with Wilder desperate to bring in additional firepower for this campaign.

And while he didn’t name him explicitly, Wilder has confirmed his side will be active to try and secure another striker in the final weeks of the window.

“We are definitely looking to improve. We want to get one at the top of the pitch to give us that quality. We are trying. It is an important area of the pitch. Obviously we have the skipper (Billy Sharp) and David McGoldrick who were involved (on Monday),” he said.

Liverpool got their title defence off to a shaky start as they edged out a seven-goal thriller against Leeds.

In terms of transfers. The Reds have agreed a deal for Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara, but Georginio Wijnaldum continues to be linked with Barcelona. There’s a lot to keep track of.

“Didzy was injured on international duty and only trained for half an hour on Sunday to get on the bench.

“Oli McBurnie was out on his feet as well and Lys (Mousset) is injured. He has a foot ligament injury.

“If we can get one more at the top end of the pitch to really give us that quality then we will be in much better shape than when we first started in the Premier League against Bournemouth (last season).”

Klopp is a big fan of the young striker, but could look to cash in this summer

Brewster added fuel to the fire earlier this week, when he liked a Instagram post from account Rising Ballers.

The post included a picture of the forward holding a trophy in the Liveprool changing room, with the caption: “Rhian Brewster will possibly leave Liverpool to join Sheffield Utd for £25m.

“Klopp will put on a buy-back clause if this deal goes through.”

And Brewster was one of over 21,000 people to like the post – giving a subtle hint that his future does indeed lie away from Anfield.

He enjoyed a successful loan spell with Swansea City last season, firing them to the Championship play-offs, but has admitted he would rather stay at Liverpool long-term.

He told The Beautiful Game podcast: “Ultimately, I want to be at Liverpool next season. I want to be fighting for a spot to play.

“Who is not going to want to play at the home of the champions?

“I don’t really want to go on loan, but if that’s the best thing for me to do, to go away and get more game time, then that’s what I’m going to do.

“Realistically, I want to play for Liverpool.”
