Liverpool set to sign Wolves striker Diogo Jota in surprise £35million transfer

Liverpool are set to sign Wolves striker Diogo Jota in a deal potentially worth in excess of £35million.
The Reds have moved swiftly in the pursuit of the Portugal forward, after sealing a deal to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.
Liverpool hope to complete the deal on Friday night, although there is no rush to get the deal over the line as he won’t be able to play against Chelsea on Sunday.
Jota, who joined Wolves from Porto three years ago, was left out of Wanderers’ starting lineup in their Premier League opener against Sheffield United.
Nor was he included in the squad for Thursday night’s Carabao Cup tie with Stoke City.
Despite arriving at the ground on the team coach, he duly departed before kickoff, with Nuno Espirito Santo saying little over his future post-game.
Jurgen Klopp has been impressed by Jota, who has been a key man as Wolves have claimed successive seventh place finishes in the Premier League.
And he sees the 23-year-old as ideal backup to Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, with the flexible forward, who has scored 44 goals in 131 games for Wolves, capable of covering all three attacking positions.
Liverpool and Wolves have been locked in transfer discussions on Friday, with Ki-Jana Hoever, the Dutch defender, set to make a move in the opposite direction in a £10million deal.

In terms of transfers the Reds have completed the signing of Thiago Alcantara, while Wolves’ Diogo Jota is next on their radar. Youngster Ki-Jana Hoever is set to head to Wolves in a £10million deal, while Gini Wijnaldum continues to be linked with Barcelona. There’s a lot to keep track of.

Klopp earlier on Friday refused to rule out further signings after the completion of the Thiago deal.
He said: “The window itself leaves the window open. It is open until October 6, so that is normal and was always the same.
“I cannot promise we will do something and I wouldn’t but I cannot say it is 100 per cent sure we don’t do anything.
“It’s the situation, it is developing a situation so anything could happen.
“If a player comes to me and asks me ‘Boss I want to go’ – I don’t expect that but it can happen – then we have to react.”
Jota is likely to make his debut against Lincoln in the Carabao Cup next Thursday.
