Liverpool ‘make contact’ with Barcelona over Ousmane Dembele transfer

Liverpool have reportedly made contact with Barcelona over a loan move for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

Jurgen Klopp is closing in on his second signing of the summer window, with Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara expected to be confirmed as a Liverpool player shortly.

The Reds had been tracking Thiago for much of the window and finally agreed a £27million deal for the Spain international earlier this week.

He has now said his farewells to Bayern Munich’s players ahead of his imminent move to Anfield.

Thiago Alcantara is set to become Liverpool’s second senior signing of the window

And with his number one target delivered, Klopp could be set for a busy final few weeks of the window.

It has been suggested that Liverpool are keen on signing a new forward to add competition to the established front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Wolves star Adama Traore and Watford ’s Ismaila Sarr have been heavily linked, but Dembele is now being reported as a potential target.

Spanish news outlet Sport report that the Premier League champions have launched an official enquiry for Dembele – with a view of landing him on a season-long loan deal.

It is claimed that Liverpool will pay a loan fee and take on his salary for the upcoming season. Barcelona are ready for a summer overhaul themselves, with Ronald Koeman ready to sanction the exits of a number of their stars.

Ousmane Dembele has struggled with injuries since his transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2017

However, Sport suggest that Barcelona have no interest in Liverpool’s offer and are not prepared to sanction any temporary transfer for the former Borussia Dortmund star.

Dembele signed for the La Liga giants for €105million back in August 2017, but injuries have hampered his time at the Camp Nou.

He made just five appearances last term and only made his comeback from a hamstring tear in a pre-season friendly earlier this week.
