Thierry Henry names better midfielder between Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard

Thierry Henry believes Paul Scholes was a better player than Steven Gerrard.
Arsenal legend Henry was asked the question on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, and said Scholes just edged it because he made Manchester United tick.
“Paul Scholes,” said Henry. “The next one would have been, right behind, very close, Stevie G. But I have to go with Paul Scholes.
“He was just ahead in his head. He made Manchester United tick. Every time we were playing them we needed to find a way to stop him.
“It’s true. I think Stevie G comes really close to him. But Paul Scholes would have to win.”

As well as Scholes and Gerrard, England boasted the likes of Frank Lampard and David Beckham in midfield at the time.
But the group never clicked, and the Three Lions were unable to win a World Cup or European championship in this period.
“You guys in England had, on paper, the best midfield in the world.” Henry added.

Henry isn’t the only former professional to rate Scholes highly, as many ex-world-beaters have heaped praise on the player he was.
Famously, Barcelona legend Xavi said of the former United man in the Daily Mail: “In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen – the most complete – is Scholes.
“I have spoken with Xabi Alonso about this many times. Scholes is a spectacular player who has everything.”
