Cardi B hinted that her marriage with Offset was on the rocks in a interview months prior to filing for divorce.
The 27-year-old rapper – real name Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar – reportedly began divorce proceedings to end her marriage to Offset – legal name Kiari Kendrell Cephus – at a court in Georgia on Tuesday.
And months before WAP hitmaker Cardi started official proceedings she revealed in an interview with Elle in September that her union with Offset had “a lot of drama.”
During the chat she also noted that she and Offset had a “passion” and “trust.”
Cardi shared: “There’s always rumors about me and my husband, and I feel like people would rather start rumors because they want me to be heartbroken.
She added: “They want me to be hurt. I do know that my relationship has a lot of drama and everything. But there’s a lot of love, there’s a lot of passion, there’s a lot of trust, there’s a big friendship. It’s always us against the world.”
On Tuesday evening TMZ reported that Cardi B filed for divorce from Offset.
The outlet added that a hearing has been set for Nov 4, 2020 and that Cardi wants legal custody of their 2-year-old daughter, Kulture Kiari Cephus.
The couple secretly tied the knot in September 2017 before confirming the news the following year.
Offset was accused of cheating on several occations.
In December 2018, Cardi B was said to have tried to call it quits on their romance before Offset begged his wife for a second chance.
He said at the time: “I only got one birthday wish and that’s to get my wife back Cardi.
“We’re going through a lot of things right now, a lot of things in the media. I want to apologize to you Cardi. I embarrassed you. I made you go crazy.”
He also apologised for “partaking in activity that [he] shouldn’t have been partaking in.”
The couple decided to give their relationship another shot at the time but now it seems things are over for good.
Cardi B and Offset are yet to publicly address the divorce proceedings.
