Queen stunned Eugenie’s wedding guests with quip about size of her house

Meeting your friend’s family can be a highlight of any wedding, and you get to see where your pal gets all their weird quirks, sense of humour and looks from.
However guests at any royal wedding can be forgiven for being slightly nervous about approaching the family table, given it’s probably where the Queen and heirs to the thrones are tucking into their slice of wedding cake.
But guests at Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank in 2018 have revealed that the Monarch was actually a lot of fun at the reception, and had everyone giggling a cheeky joke about the size of her house.
The couple tied the knot in Windsor, saying I Do in St George’s Chapel, before heading to a private afternoon reception away from the cameras hosted by the bride’s granny, the Queen.
Those lucky enough to be included on the star-studded guestlist enjoyed a luxurious meal, and many even got the chance to have a chat with the Queen.
Pixie Geldof chatted about the celebrations during a podcast with fashion designer Henry Holland, What Were You Thinking?
She said: “I didn’t meet her but she was walking around saying stuff like, ‘Well, it’s great that I have a house big enough to hold all these guests’.
“She’s full LOL. She was being funny. She was like, ‘Welcome to my home’.”
Pixie also explained that she had a rather embarrassing moment during the day, which saw her trip over in front of a group of other guests.
She said: “I fell over at one point. Stacked it, but not on to the floor.
“And not drunk – hadn’t drunk.”
Pixie and Henry also discussed her outfit for the day, a stunning pink dress and a matching hat.
While you would assume a celeb would spend months planning the perfect outfit for such a big occasion, she admitted that wasn’t the case.
She explained the dress was actually a “a last minute borrowed Celine number, of course.”
Eugenie and Jack’s wedding took place in the same venue as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ‘s just a few months after them.
However the second royal wedding of the year was a bigger affair, with several days of partying for their nearest and dearest.
As well as the Queen’s reception on the Friday afternoon, immediately after the ceremony, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson hosted a glitzy bash at their home, Windsor Lodge.
But there was no space for sore heads the next day, the bride and groom held another party on the Saturday, but insiders have said it was a much more laid-back event.
A source told Vanity Fair said: “After the more formal celebration at Windsor Castle, the Saturday bash will be a relaxed party.
“There will be dodgems and funfair rides, coconut shies, lots of food stalls, loads of cocktails, Bloody Marys for the hangovers and a festival vibe.”
