Piers Morgan details south of France burglary horror as thieves stole £10k

Piers Morgan has opened up about the horrific burglary that took place while he and wife Celia Walden slept in their French villa.
The Good Morning Britain host, 55, last month whisked his family away on a luxurious summer break in the south of France, but their trip descended into chaos when shameless thieves invaded their hotel room at night.
Burglars stole an eye-watering £10,000 from the telly presenter, but Piers believes the attack was a premeditated one.
In fact, Piers insists thieves kept a close eye on his pricy watch by following him back from Côte d’Azur celebrity haunt Club 55 to his rented villa using a drone.
Speaking to The Sun, Piers said: “It was very orchestrated, and just very unnerving. I saw a drone flying over and hovering a couple of days beforehand. They were clearly doing a recee of the villas.
“Apparently they follow you back from Club 55, see you flash your watches, and then clean people out.
“I had no idea at the time. We got up as normal the next morning, and Celia said: ‘Why’s my bag out here? It was in the bedroom’.”
Piers then recalled Celia looking through her stuff and realising that a lot of her items were missing from her bag.
Piers revealed the thieves found his briefcase that contained a lot of cash which he hadn’t spent yet.
The telly presenter revealed he had more than £10,000 taken from him in the form of Euros, Dollars and Pounds.
What’s more, he said a lot of jewellery was stolen too, including some “irreplaceable” gifts he had given Celia on their fifth wedding anniversary.
He added: “But they took presents I’d bought Celia for our fifth wedding anniversary, and irreplaceable bits of jewellery which weren’t hugely expensive but they were of huge sentimental value.”
Piers went on to reveal that he actually took extra measures to avoid this happening, by writing that he was in St Tropez on social media, when in fact he was a few miles away in Ramatuelle.
But despite his best efforts, Piers regrettably said there’s “nothing much” police can do.
Celia announced the news that the family had been burgled on the last night of their holiday last month.
Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Celia called the thieves “depraved and despicable” for taking cash and jewellery from their holiday home.
She made a terrifying discovery that the burglars had crept into the couple’s bedroom while they slept to steal stole money from her handbag.
The writer admitted she felt sickened to think the thieves had been in her bedroom while she and her husband slept.
The thieves made off with the money in her purse but left her credit cards and driver’s licence.
She added: “I felt a stomach-plummeting sense of violation at the actions of these depraved and despicable inhuman beings.”
The police told her that the burglars had left only 15 minutes before she had woken up after they heard her snooze the alarm.
Police said the thieves had only just left as they dashed out of the villa after hearing her wake up.
Piers and Celia were in the south of France with their eight-year-old daughter Elise and his three sons, Spencer, 27, Stanley, 23, and 19-year-old Bertie.
