Denise Welch sobs as she quits social media after Covid-denier jibes

Denise Welch broke down in tears in an emotional video declaring she’s taking a break from social media after Piers Morgan branded her a “dumb, deluded and dangerous Covid-denier”.

The former actress, 62, posted a clip on Instagram showing her crying as she tried to explain her point of view just days after her online showdown with the Good Morning Britain host.

In a spat on Twitter, Piers begged ITV to stop giving her airtime for her “idiotic, ill-informed ramblings”.

Denise, who called Piers a “liar” during the spat, has now told her followers she’s now stepping back from social media.

In a post on Twitter, she pointed fans towards the clip, writing: “For those who don’t follow me on Instagram I’ve left a message on there.

“I’m going to be stepping back from here as it’s taking its toll. I will try and do my bit to balance the terror campaign and thank you for all your support.”

In the video, Denise was seen tearfully explaining her side of the story – insisting she does not deny Covid-19 exists, but she’s trying to “alleviate the fear” many have over the outbreak.

She said: “I seem to spend most of my days at the moment being quite emotional.

I’ve been accused of not caring and being a Covid-denier when in fact I care so much about the devastation that Covid is causing, to the people who have lost their lives directly to Covid and those who are losing their lives because of Covid.

“All I have tried to do is find a balance between the five months of scaremongering, fear inducing, morning wakening anxiety that is causing illness mental and physical.

Piers Morgan called Denise a ‘dumb and deluded’ Covid-denier

“And I have just tried to balance we all going to die, with we are not all going to die…

She goes on to explain that she doesn’t like seeing negative stories about the coronavirus outbreak and wanted to “balance” them by sharing positive observations.

Denise went on: “Five months of turning on the TV and looking at the newspaper headlines and hearing them has been so destructive to people’s health and mental health turns into physical health troubles…

“I can’t keep on doing it because hit’s going to have an adverse effect on my and my family

“To those people to say things like Covid-denier – that is the worst thing you can say to someone who has done nothing but try to alleviate the fear.”

In their spat earlier this week, Piers reacted to Denise’s appearance on Loose Women, tweeting: “Dumb, deluded & dangerous Covid-deniers like Denise Welch need to stop being given airtime.

“Her idiotic, ill-informed ramblings – from a woman who never stops telling us that she suffers from mental illness – will cost lives by persuading people to think the virus isn’t a threat.”

Denise has denied she’s a Covid-denier

Denise hit back, writing: “Please ask Mr Morgan to show me one tweet, one interview where I have denied Covid?

“He doesn’t want to be telling complete and utter lies with such a huge following. Seriously.”

Denise’s Loose Women colleague and pal Nadia Sawalha waded in on her side, scolding Piers: “I genuinely hope that neither @piersmorgan nor anyone he loves ever has to endure the pain of struggling with their mental health…

“Sending you the biggest of hugs @RealDeniseWelch a damn fine woman is what you are.”

Piers then replied to Nadia: “If I had a loved one suffering from mental illness, I would stop them going on TV to spout ill-informed nonsense about Covid no longer being a serious threat.”

Denise then jumped back in to defend her friend, adding: “Basically Piers Morgan setting the ‘it’s good to talk’ campaign back 20 yrs.

“Of cause people who have admitted to mental health issues are incapable of making rational decisions for themselves. Unbelievable!!!!”
