Liverpool transfer roundup: Wijnaldum is Barcelona priority as Thiago speaks out
[ad_1]
The summer transfer window has been a relatively quiet one for Liverpool.
The irregular timing of the off-season has resulted in minimal holiday time for the players as well as a different type of transfer window to navigate for the Reds.
Those factors have been further complicated in Liverpool’s case by the fact they are coming into the 2020/21 season as reigning Premier League champions, and that means there will be a target on their backs.
Given the Reds have never had to deal with that type of expectation in the Premier League era, it’s fair to say that one or two signings are needed to freshen up the current squad.
So, with that in mind, here is the latest transfer news involving Liverpool.
Thiago speaks out on future
Thiago Alcantara says he hasn’t made a decision over whether he will be leaving Bayern Munich this summer.
The Spain international has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool after Bayern boss Hansi Flick stated the midfielder is seeking a new challenge ahead of the 2020/21 season.
But, as cited by the Liverpool Echo, Thiago said: “I have not said at any time that I am leaving.”
He told reporters: “Every year you put me at a different club. For me, my future is tomorrow’s game and there is nothing more to say.
“I neither care nor am I interested. What interests me is tomorrow.”
Koeman ‘prefers’ Wijnaldum transfer
New Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman wants to sign Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum over any other midfielder this summer.
Wijnaldum has less than a year left on his contract at Anfield, which has resulted in reports that the Reds could be forced to sell him during the current transfer window rather than risk losing him on a free at the end of the campaign.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Koeman views the Dutch international as “fundamental” to his Barcelona midfield after working successfully together in the Holland national set up.

Koeman may be close to getting his wish – with Liverpool belieiving they have lost the battle to keep Wijnaldum.
But the Reds have told Barcelona it will cost them £15million.
Cash-strapped Barca were hoping to land the 29-year-old midfielder for around £10million.
That doesn’t match Liverpool’s valuation of a player who cost them £23million when he arrived from Newcastle four years ago.
