Lindelof lifts lid on encounter with thief who stole from his 90-year-old aunt

Victor Lindelof has said he “just wanted to help” after chasing a thief who stole his 90-year-old aunt’s purse.

The Manchester United defender caught the culprit whom he held until police arrived to take care of the situation.

But Lindelof’s admits the situation moved so quickly that he didn’t have time to think about his actions.

He told Swedish newspaper aftonbladet : “Everything went very fast. I did not think much.

“I just wanted to help my aunt get her bag back and what she had in it.

“It was nothing more than that, I just wanted to help.”

The 26-year-old has been praised by local officials however following his heroic act.

They said: “The police would like to thank the witness for a rapid and sensible intervention made to restore the plaintiff’s property.”

Lindelof is currently holidaying in his home town Vasteras with wife Maja ahead of the new season getting underway.

A United spokesperson commented on his actions and said: “He ran after the thief and got the bag back without using any violence.

“Victor believes he was just doing what anybody would have done in that situation.”

The alleged culprit was a man in his thirties and faces charges of “aggravated theft” and “minor drug offences” despite being released.

Lindelof has not been able to speak to his family member since the incident with the global pandemic getting in the way of his efforts.

He said: “I have not had any contact with her, unfortunately.

“I think it was my brother who showed that she did an interview and invited me over for lunch.

“We will see if I can solve it before I go back, but it can probably be a little difficult during corona times.”
