Liverpool transfer news: Ben White update, Van Dijk ‘in disguise’ signs new deal
[ad_1]
Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool find themselves in a difficult situation in this summer’s transfer window.
Having claimed 196 points over the last two Premier League seasons, they need not worry about making major improvements.
However, there is an argument to say that strengthening while on top is one of the most difficult moves for a football club to make. And, while there are few changes to be made to the starting XI, a number of areas could perhaps require some added depth.
The left-back issue has already been addressed with the arrival of Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos, and several youth players have been promoted to the senior side.
But the departures of Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren mean there is a fair portion of experience lost in the first team and replacing both of those players could be something that Klopp looks to do before October 5.
Reds ‘interested’ in Lille midfielder
Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing highly-rated Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare.
French outlet Le10 Sport reports the Reds are among several clubs following the 21-year-old, with Manchester United and Arsenal also credited with interest.
Soumare has made a name for himself in a relatively young Lille side over the last few seasons since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain. And while several clubs look to be tracking his progress, Liverpool stand as one of the most attractive suitors.
Continued interest in Bayern Munich’s Thiago means Soumare may be viewed as a possible alternative if that move fails to materialise.
White close to agreeing new Brighton deal
Reported Liverpool transfer target Ben White has signed a new contract with Brighton.
The centre-back has been linked with a move to Anfield in recent months but has now penned a four-year deal with the Seagulls.
Leeds United – believed to have had three offers turned down – wanted to sign the defender permanently after he became a key part of the side which won promotion to the Premier League last season while on loan.
While Liverpool had only been tenuously linked with a move for White, the Reds will now have to turn their attentions to other potential defensive recruits.

Young Liverpool defender Rhys Williams, who has been compared to Virgil van Dijk, has signed a new deal with the Reds.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, the teenager has committed his long-term future to the club after impressive performances on loan with Kidderminster Harriers.
The National League North side had been impressed with Williams’ ability during his time on loan.
Russel Penn, Harriers’ boss at the time, even noted that he thought the youngster was Van Dijk ‘in disguise’ after watching him in his first match.
