Arsenal transfer news: Huge offer for Mesut Ozil as Gabriel Magalhaes confirmed

[ad_1]

After playing the waiting game for much of the transfer window, Arsenal have been able to announce another signing with the arrival of Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille.

The club have been busy in Mikel Arteta’s first summer as manager, adding Willian to their ranks and making two loan deals permanent, and there’s every chance the Gabriel deal isn’t their last bit of business before transfer deadline day.

While Arsenal may yet make more signings, sales aren’t out of the question either, and we’ve also got the latest on two out-of-favour midfielders whose futures appear to lie away from the Emirates Stadium.

With less than two weeks until Arteta’s team kick off their Premier League season at Fulham, here’s the latest from around Europe on the Gunners’ preparations for the new campaign.

Gabriel’s Gunners move is official

Gabriel Magalhaes has been confirmed as an Arsenal player

After a long wait, Arsenal have finally confirmed the signing of centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes.

The defender arrives from Lille, and the Gunners announced the deal on social media with a call between Gabriel and Brazil compatriots and new team-mates David Luiz and Willian.

He will take the number six shirt, most recently worn by Laurent Koscielny in the 2018/19 season, with the club confirming he has signed a “long term” contract.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta told Arsenal’s website: “He has many qualities which will make us stronger as a defensive unit and as a team.

“He has proved with Lille that he is a defender with many outstanding attributes and we are looking forward to watching him grow as an Arsenal player.”

While Arsenal have not officially disclosed the fee paid for the 22-year-old, earlier reports placed it north of £20m.

Saudi club makes huge offer in Ozil swoop

Mesut Ozil has reportedly received an offer which may tempt him away from the Emirates

Mesut Ozil still has one year left on his Arsenal contract, but his lack of first-team involvement means he continues to be linked with an exit before the current transfer window comes to a close.

The German has not played a first-team minute since March, when he started in the victory over West Ham United, and wasn’t included in the match-day squad for last weekend’s Community Shield.

Now, according to Turkish outlet Fanatik, via JOE, Al-Nassr have approached the 31-year-old with the offer of a big-money contract.

The deal would be worth $20m (£15m) per year, according to the report, with Al-Nassr aiming to reclaim the Saudi title after finishing second to Al-Hilal last season.

The nine-time champions, managed by former Benfica boss Rui Vitoria, currently count former Premier League players Brad Jones and Ahmed Musa among their squad.

Lucas Torreira is one member of Arsenal’s squad who could be offloaded this summer, especially if the Gunners are able to bring Dani Ceballos back to the Emirates Stadium.

The Uruguayan has been linked with a return to Serie A, having joined from Sampdoria in 2018, with reports in Italy suggesting Fiorentina remain keen on getting a deal over the line.

According to La Nazione (via Sport Witness), Giuseppe Iachini’s side, who finished last season 10th in Serie A, are keen on a loan move with an obligation to buy.

The report suggests La Viola are waiting for a final answer from the London club, which could arrive before the end of the week.

Arsenal are understood to prefer a permanent switch for the 24-year-old, who would join international team-mate Martin Caceres in Florence if an agreement can be reached.

Torreira struggled for minutes at the end of last season after returning from injury, starting just twice after making his comeback on July 4.
