Liverpool transfer news: Ben White update as Reds miss out on bargain midfielder
[ad_1]
The transfer window may be open until October 5, but the clock is very much ticking ahead of the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season.
With under two weeks to go until it all kicks off, if managers want to work with new signings ahead of their first league game, they haven’t got long to get the deals finalised.
Liverpool have signed just one player so far this summer, with Greek left-back Kostas Tsimikas joining from Olympiakos to provide cover for Scotland captain Andy Robertson.
But while he is the only completed deal, there are plenty of rumours regarding players either joining or leaving the Reds. Here’s the latest batch of Liverpool transfer gossip.
White decision amid Reds’ centre-back search
Having allowed Dejan Lovren to join Zenit St. Petersburg, Liverpool are arguably short of centre-backs.
Virgil van Dijk played every minute of every match in the Premier League last season, but his sidekicks in the centre of the Reds’ defence are far more injury prone.
Joe Gomez appears to be over the worst of his problems from the last few years, but Joel Matip is currently out.
Fabinho had to play centre-back during the Community Shield when Jurgen Klopp made a tactical switch, so further cover is required.
However, one target appears to be off the table for now. Brighton ’s Ben White, who spent last season helping Leeds United get promoted to the Premier League, is on the brink of signing an improved contract with the Seagulls, according to Sky Sports.
Reds miss out on bargain Tonali
Another Liverpool target appears to be out of reach of the Reds, but this time as he is moving to a different club instead.
Sandro Tonali, who scored one goal and assisted seven more for Brescia in Serie A last season (per WhoScored), was linked with a €50million (£45m) move to Anfield in January.
Nothing came of the talk, though, and according to Sky Italia he is now going to be signing for AC Milan instead.
The price is apparently €30m (£26.9m), so perhaps Liverpool have missed out on a bargain.

If Liverpool are to make further signings this summer, then raising some funds via sales would help their cause.
One player who could be set to leave the club is Harry Wilson. Despite the 23-year-old being highly rated by the Reds, his one appearance for Liverpool came almost four years ago in an FA Cup tie against Plymouth Argyle.
Wilson has spent plenty of time out on loan, representing Hull City, Derby County and Bournemouth respectively in the last three seasons.
Aston Villa, Leeds United and Newcastle are said to be interested in signing the Welsh international, but Liverpool’s reported valuation of £20m is putting them off.
