Charlotte Hawkins’ kind gesture of hope to Kate Garraway during Derek’s illness

Good Morning Britain’s Charlotte Hawkins has revealed how she has been there for Kate Garraway in recent months.

Kate, 53, has had an extremely tough time of late as her husband Derek Draper, 52, was hospitalised in March after contracting coronavirus.

He was later put into an induced coma which lasted 13 weeks – which he woke up from in July but he is still on a long road to recovery.

And Kate’s colleague and friend Charlotte, 45, has shared the thoughtful gesture she did in order to let the TV star – who has two kids Darcey and Billy with Derek – that she was thinking of her and her family as they battle the tough period.

Charlotte has revealed that she is “keeping everything crossed” for Derek’s full recovery and that she gifted Kate a special rose to remind her to stay hopeful.

The ITV personality told OK! magazine: “It’s been horrific for her and her family. She’s been going through such a tough time and she’s continuing to go through a tough time. We don’t know what’s around the corner. Everybody at GMB is there for her in whatever way she needs…

“It’s really hard all I want to do is hug her. I wanted to show her that I was thinking of her so I sent a rose called Growing Hope…

“She loves her garden and hopefully planting it will grow some hope for them. It’s been a heartbreaking situation for her. I keep everything crossed that Derek is going to be OK.”

Much-loved presenter Kate is currently taking a break from GMB.

She recently explained that she was taking some time off from the show amid what has been an incredibly challenging time for her family.

She said she wanted to focus on preparing her children Billy, 11, and Darcey, 14, for going back to school.

“I’m actually not here next week, I’m taking a bit of time off to help Billy get sorted for secondary school, the children, Darcey as well to get into school,” she said.

She is expected to return to the helm this week.
