Adele supported by Naomi Campbell amid cultural appropriation accusations

Adele has been backed by supermodel Naomi Campbell after the hitmaker was accused of cultural appropriation by fans.
The Hello songstress, 32, sparked controversy when she took to social media over the weekend to showcase her Notting Hill Carnival outfit and hairstyle.
The snap – that showcased the Tottenham born star’s shrinking frame – showed her in a bikini bearing the Jamaican flag and Bantu knots, a traditional African hairstyle.
“Happy what would be Notting Hill Carnival my beloved London,” Adele wrote in the caption as she lamented missing the annual event, which was celebrated online this year.
Some social media users took to the comments to claim Adele was profiting from black culture and others reminded the angry fans that the Brit School alumni grew up in Tottenham in London, and has been surrounded by black culture since she was born.
And Naomi Campbell- whose mother was born in Jamaica – has thrown her support behind Adele’s look by penning a message under the Instagram offering.
Proving she approves, the catwalk queen typed two heart emojis alongside two Jamaican flag icons in the comment section.
A number of well known faces have shared that they back Adele – including Alexandra Burke and MP David Lammy.
Tottenham MP David typed on Twitter, in response to the backlash: “Poppycock! This humbug totally misses the spirit of Notting Hill Carnival and the tradition of ‘dress up’ or ‘masquerade’.”
“Adele was born and raised in Tottenham she gets it more than most. Thank you Adele. Forget the Haters.”
Former X Factor star Alexandra shared her viewpoint and support for the singer on DJ’s Carnival tribute show on BBC Radio 1Xtra on Monday morning.
Alexandra said: “I see the pic. She looks hot. She’s obviously been working on her body, that for me is a big deal. She’s looking good.
“As a Jamaican girl myself, my girl has grown up in black culture. People forget she’s from Tottenham. She probably eats jerk chicken all the time like all of us.
“All I’m saying is the girl looked good, leave her. Allow her man. If Popcaan is going to endorse it and say yes my girl you’re wearing the flag and you’re wearing it well. Let her live her best life, leave her alone. We love Adele.”
Adele was born in Tottenham and then she moved to Brighton alongside her mum between the ages of nine and eleven.
The mother and daughter returned to London in 1991 and lived in Brixton before moving to West Norwood, south London.
