Prithvi Shaw the teen prodigy and now an established India cricketer was roped in by Delhi Capitals (DC) for his maiden IPL stint in IPL 2018. The 20-year-old has now spent two years at the franchise and happens to be one of the key players of the team which is still searching for it’s first IPL trophy.

The last season had seen the Mumbai batsman accumulate 353 runs from his 16 outings. DC captain Shreyas Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting would be hoping for the gun batsman to go past these figures in this season and aide their team in a desired victorious run.

Former Australia and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) chinaman bowler Brad Hogg has heaped rich praises on Shaw and opined that he will be the “standout” performer for Delhi Capitals. Further, the 49-year-old said that the right-hand batsman resembles batting legends Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara.

“The standout for the Delhi Capitals I think is going to be Prithvi Shaw. I think it is time for him to make runs and show the world how good he actually is because he is a talent. I would say he is a bit like Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar,” Brad Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

Delhi Capitals have a combination of youth and experience in the squad. Shikhar Dhawan had joined the squad last season, the management had also roped in seniors like Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin in the squad. The Delhi-based franchise is already brimming with the flamboyance of youngsters like Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw. Overall, the batting unit looks solid and Brad Hogg reckoned the fact calling DC’s top-six “very formidable”.

Hogg termed the acquisition of off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin as an “absolute beauty”.

“The Delhi Capitals’ top six looks very formidable, a mixture of experience with youngsters. They have got Dhawan at the top, along with Prithvi Shaw, Pant and Iyer. So, they are going to make plenty of runs.

“The acquisition of Ashwin is an absolute beauty, quality leadership, good spinner, also can handle the bat in the middle overs. That adds a little bit of depth to their batting and spin department,” Hogg added.

Any problem with the Delhi Capitals squad?

Brad Hogg pointed out two problems with the Delhi Capitals rather flawless squad. The area of concern for the team according to Hogg is their heavy reliance on their South African pacer Kagiso Rabada. In case the lethal pacer gets injured DC are left with Ishant Sharma, who has lost his spark in white-ball cricket, inexperienced Anrich Nortje, Mohit Sharma, Harshal Patel and Avesh Khan as specialist fast bowlers. Hogg also doubted on Delhi Capitals’ depth and quality in their overseas contingent.

“Their flaw is their depth in pace. They rely too heavily on Rabada. If Rabada gets injured, Delhi Capitals are in a lot of trouble. The other flaw they have is that they don’t have depth and quality in their overseas contingent.”
