The trailer offers the first peek at RPatz in the role, and viewers have been surprised by the hair and makeup choices.

‘I like rpatz’s version of the batman bc he looks like he reads the twilight saga. look at this man. he adds bella’s lullaby to his playlists,’ quipped one.

‘Why does Robert Pattinson look like a dirty Victorian youth in the new Batman?’ asked another.

The predominant hot take is that Pattinson looks emo or goth, with some fans imagining a mid-2000s playlist.

‘Hot Topic Batman? Imagine a Fall Out Boy music video,’ wrote one.

‘Robert Pattinson looking like a goth pretty boy who listens to [My Chemical Romance] and has perfected the smokey eye look is the exactly the kind of batman i’ve been waiting for my entire life,’ wrote another.

‘Robert Pattinson as Batman but My Chemical Romance plays in the background,’ tweeted a third.

Several pointed out that it shouldn’t be a surprise that Batman might be portrayed as particularly emo — since the character is already a pretty emotional, depressed kind of guy.

‘Ppl saying Pattinson looks “too emo” — it’s literally Batman I don’t think there’s another comic book character more emo than him,’ one person tweeted.

‘If you don’t think that dressing in all black and dedicating your life to avenging the deaths of your parents and doing it all from a cave is emo then I have some news for you,’ tweeted another fan.

‘Man, y’all trowing out “emo Batman” like it’s an insult like Bruce hasn’t been the most melodramatic woe-is-me hero ever. Bruce Wayne is the blueprint for the sad boi,’ a third chimed in.

Some people were particularly concerned with the character’s eyeliner — though it seems just as many more are intrigued by it.

‘Robert Pattinson with eyeliner now lives in my head rent free all I have to say is…. welcome home,’ wrote one.

‘Shoplifting in gotham city so robert pattinson in eyeliner hunts me down,’ joke another.

Several have also pointed out that every Batman has worn eyeliner with his costume as a way to darken the skin around his eyes, but fans just aren’t use to seeing him with the makeup when the costume comes off.
