It was in the season of 2013 that four-time Indian Premier League Champions, Mumbai Indians, won their first-ever IPL title under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.
The story was such that the then captain Ricky Ponting had stepped down from his leadership position to make way for Sharma to lead the team. That one step led to four IPL titles to Mumbai Indians’ name and Rohit Sharma has been a celebrated captain hence.
“We’re keeping up with the tradition of supporting young, new talents and nurturing them.”

In this regard, former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan has shared his take as to what makes it the best quality in Sharma as a captain. Khan, who is MI’s Director of Cricket Operations, revealed that, even though the list of qualities is pretty long, it’s the veteran Indian opener’s ability to remain calm under pressure situations and maintain a relaxing aura for his teammates.
“The best quality of Rohit as captain… well the list is very long. But to me, what really stands out is having that relaxed aura around him,” Zaheer said, as seen on Mumbai Indians’ official Twitter, replying to a fan’s query under #AskZakOnMI.
“But yet, he’s a very intense and serious thinker of the game. That really shows when he makes those tactical calls on the field, in pressure situations of the match. His teammates also really believe in him. So, I think that quality I will put right up to bring out the best in each and every one of his teammates.”
While Rohit Sharma took up the captaincy reins in the 2013 mid-season, Zahir Khan had an opportunity to play under his leadership in the 2014 IPL edition.
